Eats Shoots & Leaves

March 10, 2010

A panda walked into a cafe.

He ordered a sandwich, ate it, then pulled out a gun and shot the waiter.

'Why?' groaned the injured man.

The panda shrugged, tossed him a badly punctuated wildlife manual and walked out.

And sure enough, when the waiter consulted the book, he found an explanation.

'Panda: Large black-and-white bear-like mammal native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves.

I bought this book at the beginning of the year when we were studying precision English. The blurb got me hooked, it was amusing, light hearted and funny, which is a rare find when searching for ‘interesting’ English books.

However, a thought has occurred to me now I’m looking at the book again. Surely people with incorrect punctuation don’t read many books? –Especially books about punctuation? Pretty Ironic, don’t you think?
