Domestic Goddesses

August 17, 2011

I’m captivated by the domestic series by Boston-based painter Leslie Graff.

The images are so pretty and idealised (heels in every image — is that a statement?).

The originals go on sale in October and you can buy the series as notecards in Leslie’s shop.

So domestic art, should it show the nitty gritty day to day life at home, or the idealised family happily living together?

  2. Of course the heels are a statement. They show how us women our wonder women who do all the house work and child minding whilst still looking glamourous in heels. I did at first find this series rather sexist but when you look at the details it's rather liberating!

  3. I defiantly didn't find this series sexist; the pencil skirts and heels remind me on the 50's era, but yet can also represent the working woman in modern times -how even now we have the house keeping role as well as our own jobs.
