Testing the Tube

February 01, 2012

Polish designer Pani Jurek specifically designs objects that are not only functional, but also engage users to descover their creative side.

The object looks like a crystal chandelier, but is actually made from chemistry test tubes placed into circular plywood bands.

This test tube chandelier allows people to use the vessels as they see fit, giving them a chance to personalise their furniture.

Here Jurek suggests using them as vases -but really the possibilties are endless.

I especially love that you can fill the tubes with colored liquid and “experiment” to make the lamp entirely your own.

People collect all kinds of small, weird things and this could be a great way of displaying them.

The lamp design was inspired by Polish scientist Maria Sklodowska-Curie, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of polonium and radium.
