A town called Malice

September 29, 2009

I thought nothing could be more worrying than starting university, moving away from home and to be left in a small city and told that I now have to fend for myself myself.
I was wrong.
Attending Mr Horrie’s lecture today has made me realise that being a journalist isn't all the fun it makes out to be; gazing at a 'hunky' witness can get me 30 years imprisonment, I live in the country which has the most aggressive liable laws, if I don’t turn up to court to discus the car parking ticket I have I could be sent to prison for up to 2 years and it was revealed that individuals sue just for the sheer fun of it.
London is the Libel city of the world and is now unbelievably home to the phrase, ‘no win, no claim’. Upon hearing news of the penalties i could face today I have decided that any derogatory remarks I have about others are now to be kept firmly in my head. This, however, will be tough–I am a woman after all, it’s in my nature to comment and criticise. I honestly don’t know how magazines such as ‘Heat’ and ‘Now’ get away with it!
My journalism carer has kicked off with a shock; I am now in fear of being arrested until I am nearly 50 for bringing my mobile phone into a court room and sued for a ridiculous amount of money which I simply do not have if I describe an individual of being plump.
Wish me luck.
