Grab you're Wellies; it's time to Go Kelp Fishing!

May 21, 2011

I'm not sure why, but Sea weed has taken my fancy recently -and no, not the type you get from the Chinese (what is in fact deep fried cabbage!)

After watching River Cottage years ago I learnt that we can easily access a free supper of edible Kelp from our very own shore lines.

I had images of people wading through the British coastline
in their wellies with nets and buckets harvesting Sea Weed by the tonne.
...unfortunately the the craze didn't kick off.

And it is a sin it hasn't.
We have access to a free and easily available delight; it's free, organic and tasty, surely we can't go wrong?

And with more of the Japanese culture slowly making it's way into our Supermarkets and Restaurants, isn't it about time we try a 'do it at home' version?

I think it looks pretty dam tasty.

(Please read manuals as to which types you can eat and how to cook them -not everything is edible)
