Last week I was looking for a local restaurant to take friends to on New Years Day. Asking Twitter (the never ending resource of food knowledge) a few people recommended Provender in Wanstead.
If you want authentic French cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere with good service, this modest bistro in leafy suburban Wanstead is the place.
Forget foams and other restaurant fads, the restaurant serves French bourgeois cooking of the highest standard at reasonable prices.
We ordered from Prix Fixe menu which had a good selection of dishes. Whilst my fellow dinners feasted on steak, I tucked into a grilled goats cheese starter followed by truffled artichoke & mushroom risotto with 18 month Parmesan.
At just £11.75 for two courses the meal was extremely good value for money. Both dishes were well presented and the staff were very attentive.
If you're looking for a fuss-free leisurely lunch I highly recommend Provender.
After my meal I saw a picture of their steak tatar on Instagram and have vowed to go back to try it.
