Le Petite Chaise paris

During our walk home from Les Invalides we walked past a quickly little restaurant called La Petite Chaise - we took a picture of the outside and decided we would look it up on Trip Adviser once we got back to the hotel.

My word had we come across a gem! Not only were the reviews spectacular, but we discovered the the restaurant is seeped in history and is known as the oldest restaurant in Pairs - now that's a great place to spend your birthday!

The first construction of this building dates from 1610 - Between 1652 and 1680 the house has renovated and is the same building that still exists today.

Through recorded sales of the building the owners can confirm it is the oldest restaurant in the city due to a certain certain Georges Rameau selling wines and small bites from the property in 1680.

We were nervous about turning up without a reservation, so decided to beat the tourist crowd and turned up around 8:30pm.

We had read online that if you weren't fluent in french you may have difficulty - however we were greeting warmly and took a seat at the bar. My ropey french was good enough to order us some wine (the best we had in Paris, in my opinion) and the waiters did indeed speak English when they had the chance to - I was trying to practise my french as much as possible!

After 10 minuets we were taken to our table and presented a set menu for a very reasonable 36 for 3 courses. Russell opted for the escargots whilst I ordered the french onion soup - both were outstanding and I still dream of that cheesy, rich soup....

For main course I ordered the duck whist Russell opted for steak - both were delicious but didn't beat the starters.

For the life of me I can't remember what we had for dessert (did I mention the wine was good?) but I do remember I finished the evening with a refreshing glass of white port - the perfect finish to w wonderful birthday spend in Paris.
