It has spent years out in the cold, but the warm, hearty pie is making a comeback. Pies are officially 'trendy' again, and with Chunk of Devon releasing their Christmas range, they're sure to be the star of your holiday gathering (trust me, just one slice won't do).

A few weeks ago I was kindly sent pies in the post, much to my boyfriend's delight, to review ahead of the festive season. Here's what we thought of the range:

Pork Pie
A lovely individual pork pie made with British pork meat, a little diced shoulder for texture and a smidgen of herbs. We thought it had a great amount of jelly, perfect pastry and loved the contrast of the sweet yet tart topping. Full marks!

Turkey & Ham Pork Pie with Cranberries
Similar to the pork pie but crammed with chunks of ham and turkey. It's a real a looker topped with whole cranberries steeped in spiced jelly - if Christmas was reincarnated in pie form, this would be it.

Venison & Port Pie with Bacon & Juniper Berries
A truly tasty pie with strong flavours - the venison adds a deep savoury base whilst the port and juniper berries create a warming winter spice.

Turkey & Ham Pasty with Cranberries
Unfortunately our least favourite of the bunch, the turkey breast, cranberry, bacon and leek pastry looked great but but was a little dry. Carefully wrapped in short crust pastry, hand crimped & finished off with a little star, it still looked the part.
